Paint It Black

For those of you who follow me on Instagram you will probably know that a few days back I posted an image about my four ultimate black paints. For those of you who don't follow me, don't worry about missing it because I'm going to talk about it here. Black has always been my to go to colour. So much so that pretty much everything I own is black or as close to black as possible. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy colour, I just find myself gravitating towards the dark side.

To be pedantic, black actually isn't a colour. It is the absence of all colour. The colour spectrum does not include black at any point because black is the absorption of all colours. Hence the reason why black is used to compliment all colours.

Paint is typically the main aspect of a room where people begin to introduce colour. Which is why I have a list of some of the best black paints available on the market. I prefer paints which offer full coverage, preferably in about two coats of paint. Depth of colour is also very important, and the colours on my list are both complex and deep. There's an emotion emitting from them as well as a personality. And it is these things working together which allow the paints to have such a striking impact, an impact which is not found in a lot of other black paints.

So here is my list of the Ultimate Black Paints. First up we have Black Beauty by Benjamin Moore, which is a gloriously deep colour which beautiful pigmentation. There is a sense of grandeur emitting from this paint.

Second we have Off-Black by Farrow & Ball. This has a blue-ish tinge to the colour but again the complexity of the colour is visible from the offset.

Then we have Lamp Black by Little Greene Paint Company, a colour which resembles pure black. Perfect for creating a sophisticated and elegant look.

Lastly we have Dark Kettle Black by Valspar, which give off dark grey vibes. This colour is perfect for those who don't want to go pure black but want the moody and upmarket.

When it comes to Interior Design black is a tricky colour to get right. As it absorbs light and colour, you need to pay great attention in how it's used. It's all about striking the right balance. Black is versatile colour, and I am of the opinion that all rooms need a bit of black, and that's because I feel black grounds a room. It pulls everything together like an anchor.
